Wide Awake at 2:17 AM
Expanded Edition
You fall asleep fine. Then it’s 2:17, and the list is already running.
The Kindle edition is included with Kindle Unlimited.
At 2:17 you are awake, all at once, and the list has started before you decided to think: the permission slip, the text you didn’t answer, whether your son’s shoes still fit. This book is about that waking, and about the day that sets it up.
It explains, without a diagnosis, why the waking tends to come at that hour, then asks for small, specific changes: a walk before ten, forty minutes before bed that ask nothing of you, the phone charging in another room, a notebook on the kitchen counter, a chair for the nights it still happens. Every chapter ends with one thing to do tonight. It is meant to be read over three weeks.
This edition adds the rest of the week: Saturday, the work that comes home with you, the husband who sleeps through all of it. Its chapter called What This Is Not says plainly which kinds of tired the book cannot help with, and who to call instead.
From the book
Nothing here asks you to buy an app, track a metric, or become a woman who journals for forty minutes before bed.
A Note from Claire
You do not need a new personality. You need a body that has been given the same signal often enough to believe the day ended.
Introduction
At 2:17 you were in the gym again, except you were in the dark, and the proud face was gone, and the only thing left was the unanswered dentist and the black pants.
