Somewhere Around Six
Mom Rage, Yelling at Your Kids, and How to Repair
Six o’clock, no dinner, and a voice you didn’t choose. This book starts in the ten minutes after.
The Kindle edition is included with Kindle Unlimited.
You have asked about the backpack four times. The fifth time, the sound is out before you have decided anything. It is 6:12, the pasta water isn’t on, and the kitchen window is open.
Somewhere Around Six doesn’t ask you to become a mother who never shouts. It takes one evening in order: the half hour before, the first heat in the chest, the ten minutes after, and the repair, when you sound like yourself again, say what was yours, and don’t ask a child to make you feel better about it.
Later chapters carry the same hour into other rooms: Saturday, homework, the other adult, the kitchen you grew up in, the email from school. A note at the front says plainly where the book stops and other help begins.
From the book
And this book will not ask you to become a woman who never shouts. That woman is not required.
A Note from Claire
You are angry about the folder. You are also responsible for the word anything. These facts do not cancel.
Chapter Four — The Ten Minutes After, Done Differently
